A Prayer Over Labor Day

Father, today we pause to thank you for the men and women who work every day doing things that allow our lives to be more pleasant. We thank you for those who work in manufacturing, making things we need. Thank you for the hours they spend on assembly lines and with their hands, making clothes, furniture, cars, appliances, utensils, and so much more.

We thank you for all who work in service occupations who we often take for granted. Bless all of your children who serve you by serving others.

We pray that you would grant every worker the awareness of their need for rest and the support of their employers and family that they might experience rest from their labors.

Lord, we surrender ourselves to you completely. Reading the apostle Paul’s words makes us aware that all that we do we do for you. Receive our work and our rest. May your life be seen and experienced through our work each day.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
