Forgive us for our church fights where we argue and even isolate in different denominations convinced that “we know” what other Christians don’t know about You and Your kingdom. Forgive us.

If we have illness or orthopedic challenges, we end up creating all kinds of work-arounds just to accomplish the simplest of tasks. How many work-arounds have been created because of the dysfunction and disunity of the church, Christ’s body? What could be accomplished in God’s kingdom if we accepted and celebrated our gifts instead of wasting time in discussions or pursuits of what others have been given?

Protecting the life of the unborn is a huge concern. Babies are created in the image of God. So protection of life is a God thing. But to truly follow God, we must demonstrate with words and actions that we’re more than simply pro-birth. Protection of life begins in the womb but continues through the lifespan and should be supported for all people. . . . . Pro-life decisions are important, and healthy birth, a vital part of life, is important to God. But if we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, our pro-life actions and decisions must move beyond pro-birth.

If we are willing to bring our philosophy books, our political parties, our advocacy organizations into the silence, God wants to meet us there. And in the silence let’s listen to how they compare to almighty God. In the silence we can compare their ability to deliver us against what God has done and what he promises he will yet do.

We do well to remember an oft-repeated quote from a novel by S.E. Hinton: “If you have two friends in your lifetime, you’re lucky. If you have one good friend, you’re more than lucky.” We need to think twice about careless use of the word friend.
