Summertime . . . and the reading is easy! But sometimes a different schedule interrupts our devotional routine. If you missed a post this week, these quotes may remind you to check it out!

July 12
When Jesus pulled a team together he didn’t pick a single one of the religious or political leaders in town. His leadership group didn’t have the look of leadership. They looked like the people who could use some help. In synagogue they were the ones who never got picked to do anything and were never offered a seat at any table.

July 13
We will be learning more and dealing with the ongoing challenges of this pandemic for a few years I suspect. And hopefully, we won’t face another. But regardless of the sources of tomorrow’s challenges, I think our best approach to victory is to remember the basics of faith. Seek God in prayer, do your work including planning for tomorrow, and stand firm allowing God to fight for you.

There is plenty of food in the world to go around. It’s not a question of resources. It’s a problem of willingness to act and faith that God does always provide.

We can’t change behaviors without first allowing Jesus to fix the heart issues at our very core.

July 16
The days when I feel the most fatigued are also the days where I feel the most burdened. It’s on these days when I might even resemble a martyr trying to do it all myself. But then I remember to check and see which yoke I chose that day. Without fail, whether deliberately or accidentally, I pulled the wrong yoke out of the closet.

July 17
We do have power to obey, to surrender, to accept what life throws at us without insisting that God tell us why. Moses had the power to raise his staff before the seething sea. And then God showed his power, the power we can’t muster, the power we need, the power to charge forward without drowning in the watery wall of threat surrounding us. I’m learning, still learning, to pray for that power—and for the grace to accept and use it for God and not for myself.
